THE PHYSICS OF SYSTEMS

I like to discover the reasons behind every phenomena that occurs in systems. Systems is not just writing a peice of code and executing it on a machine. It's about coming up with a theory, blending it up with the system and make sure that it behaves as it is supposed to. Systems is beautiful if the model is mathematical.

ACADEMIC ENTHUSIAST

My Advisor says , "In academia you don't care about the real world or industry. We solve problems because they are beautiful or elegant or just fun to solve. If you can solve a challenging problem in the most elegant way then you're done." This is my philosophy in lab.

  • Distributed Live Sim
  • CAMEO
  • Optimizer Torture Test

LiveSim is an online Simulator which simulates workload and characterizes them within seconds by using Sampling and SimPoint. This application requires poweful hardware. We implemented a distributed version of Live Sim based on client server architecture on commodity hardware and verified the results so that they conform to the standalone version.

CAMEO, a hardware-based CAche-like MEmory Organization that not only makes stacked DRAM visible as part of the memory address space but also exploits data locality on a fine-grained basis. Cameo was implemented in the MacSim Simulator by modelling all the components in detail. A research study was conducted on the best suitable line size to use for CAMEO.

Optimizer Torture Test is a test suite designed to torture the database optimizers. Project evaluated the Sub-optimlity of the various queries in OTT by using different methods, characterized the phenomena and proposed solutions to it.
